Projects aimed at the public

As a part of the project, we try to pass on the basics of first aid in an easy, fast and illustrative form. The aim of the project is for the course participants to acquire both theoretical and especially practical knowledge in providing first aid. In this way, we try to increase the overall willingness to provide assistance. Our aim is thatafter co mpleting the course, each participant is left with the feeling that they knew how to behave and what to do in a situation where they found themselves in the role of a rescuer.

Teddy Bear Hospital is a project aimed at preschool children. Its goal is to rid the children of the fear of “white coats” (ie doctors, nurses and the medical environment in general). On the contrary, we try to show them that doctors are here to help and that routine examinations often don’t even hurt. A big bear, which the children take care of, helps us with all of this.

I WANT TO KNOW MORE

World Health Day and World Aids Day are our two biggest events, where we inform the public about health issues, measure blood pressure, body fat, teach the basics of surgical suturing and self-examination methods, and for the little ones we have a Teddy Bear Hospital ready.

Projects aimed at medical education

The purpose of MediCafé is to popularize medical science. To show that it is not just a rigid system, but on the contrary a dynamic structure that affects us every day and surrounds us all around. Many patients would like to understand what lies behind the complex name of their diagnosis or the illness of their loved ones, and students – medics and non-medics alike – are equally interested in these topics and will gain the necessary information through these discussions.

The course of surgical suturing takes place several times a month in two variants – basic course and advanced course. The point of surgical suturing is to practice as many techniques and methods of suturing on a pig’s leg or synthetic preparations as possible. Lecturers are students who already have experience in surgical suturing and want to do so in their careers.

In World AIDS Week on December 1, we are raising awareness about HIV/AIDS through various actions. By selling ribbons in the streets and organizing a party for students, we raise funds for the Czech AIDS Aid Society (ČSAP), which helps people living with HIV. In cooperation with transport companies, we send preventive trams, in which we inform the public about the possibilities of virus transmission, prevention, the possibility of free testing and issuing certificates when traveling abroad.

Through the sex education project, we break social taboos and spread awareness of positive sexuality and healthy and safe sex. Our goal is not to deter, but to inform and talk openly about all aspects of human sexuality, focusing on sex life and its pitfalls in the form of sexually transmitted diseases. We teach them to recognize their symptoms and how to protect themselves from them. We talk about the importance of consent, differences in sexual and gender orientation, family planning or menstruation and its cycle.

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually around the world on December 10 in honor of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly in 1948. Each year, the theme of World Human Rights Day is devoted to a specific theme set by the UN. An accompanying program such as exhibitions and their openings, lectures for the public, workshops for medics and the public, discussions with experts, and various presentations take place within the given topic.

This is a seminar focused mainly on medical students. The main topic is domestic violence. Experts from various sectors (White Circle of Safety, police, etc.) train students on how to recognize domestic violence, how to communicate with victims and how to help such people. The aim is to teach participants to recognize the victim of domestic violence, to teach them to communicate with the victim and to show a system that will help the victim to overcome everything.

Medicine is not a job, but a mission! The vision of the project is to awaken solidarity and empathy in medical students, to awaken community feeling. We want to show medical students that medical practice is not only about healing but also about helping others. The project consists of several “subprojects” whose goal is to help those in need.
